Vacuum has been a controversial philosophical issue since the ancient Greek era. This article summarizes the discussion of “vacuum” at different stages of modern physics, from classical Newtonian mechanics to relativity, quantum mechanics, and quantum field theory, etc., including in various theories, the concept, the theory, and the experiment of vacuum.
